Biography

I was Born, 1951 in Honolulu, Hawaii.  As a young girl I won many art awards. Deep in my heart I always knew I wanted to be an artist.  In my senior year of high school, my teacher filled out my papers for an art scholarship to The Art Students League of New York. I was accepted! But my parents refused to let me go stating it was a waste of my time and money. So I worked as an accountant and secretary.

When I was 30, I began to hunger to paint, so I started taking landscape, still life, and seascapes lessons. Once I said to a teacher,  “I never want to be a portrait artist. Everyone sees themselves different and you have to deal with people’s egos.”  Unbeknownst to me, a Portrait Artist is who I am and what I am supposed to be.

The first real Portrait Artist I ever saw, was Daniel Greene. I joined one of his three day workshops and he introduced me to my life as an artist. Within in one year of his workshop, I was earning a living with my art.

I had quit my secretarial job and became a full time artist.  I  traveled twice a month to events to draw people’s portraits and sold my Native American charcoal buckskin paintings.

In 1996, I stopped traveling and sold my work  on the Internet.  As a single mother, I was able to support my children with  my art, and still am earning a living with it.

I have never stopped learning. The Internet has given Realist Portrait Artist all over the world the ability to be in contact and share what they have learned. I have purchased their dvds and learned more.  I will never forget the words of Daniel Greene, “When you stop learning, you stop being an Artist.”  I believe this.

I am thankful for all these modern day Masters who share what they know to help me and others to be the artist they knew they were supposed to be.
